Our History

Riverside to River of Hope

Riverside Baptist Church began its ministry in Devon on February 2, 1986 with Pastor Ron Zukowski as a part time pastor.  The first meeting was held at Riverview Elementary School.  The second pastor was Pastor Ron Orr who came in May, 1986 to May 1987.  On September 2, 1987 Pastor Larry Froese was called to be Riverside’s first full time pastor.  The church was incorporated under “The Religious Societies Land Act” September 28, 1987.  The church purchased approximately 6.6 acres of land in 1989. The only usable building on the land was a large truck garage made of a steel beam construction which was renovated. The renovated building was dedicated on February 3, 1991.
The church changed its official name on August 24, 2005 to “River of Hope”.  This name reflects our vision for the church – a place of hope. People with disabilities, the poor and marginalized are special and are welcome in this place of worship.   Pastor Larry and Phyllis Froese served River of Hope Church for over 25 years!  In 2010 Pastor Dave Horrocks was hired as an Associate Pastor with intention to take over when Pastor Larry retired.  Pastor Larry and Pastor Dave worked together for two and a half years, successfully transitioning in January 2013 to Pastor Larry’s retirement and Pastor Dave becoming the Senior Pastor.
